NORFACE Capcaity Building Projects

Religion, mobility and place

This capacity building program consists of three events: two 'winter-schools' and one summer-school. During these meetings junior researchers involved in four NORFACE projects will receive training from an interdisciplinary perspective. Senior researchers of the four projects and invited experts will be involved. Methodology will be central in the meetings' program. The issues will be discussed in relation to theory, more specifically theory regarding the re-emergence of religion in Europe. Besides attention will be given to issues of interdisciplinary research, publishing and writing research proposals. Seven countries are involved in the projects. Researchers from other NORFACE countries are explicitly invited. The disciplines involved are anthropology, sociology, religious studies and cultural studies. They share an emphasis on qualitative methods and on theory concerning transnationalism, globalisation, movement, gender and religion. Beside the training aspect, this project aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas and practical experience between different generations of academics and to promote thorough reflection on methodological and theoretical issues.

Thus young academics will be capacitated for their further academic careers, whereas increased cross-border collaboration and intensification of networks among different generations of researchers will be stimulated.
